feeeed meee!!!

I haven't eaten in 4 days...

since monday last week I've had a tummy bug and for the last 4 days I haven't been able to even keep down little sips of warm water. Copious amounts of puking - and the other stuff - dizziness, wobblyness, achy limbs, lots of sleep (thankfully) and I'm now 2 stone lighter.

The past two nights I've dreamed about food. Chocolate... icecream... toffee... and clementines (of all things!) also of fairys and me growing pink butterfly wings, which was fun, but I don't think that had anything to do with the bug.

Last night I began to feel a tiny bit better and the friendly doc - who didn't insist that I was rushed straight to hospital like all the others have done in the past! phew - suggested I drank ribena or flat coke to get my blood sugar back up. Arrrgggh!! I'm allurgic to sugar!!!!! Fortunately my dad suggested the 3rd world famine alternative of brown rice water with a little salt. Trust me, after 3 days of nothing but hot metallicy water, it tasted like heaven. And later on in the day mum made some soup, drained out all the bits and just gave me the water. So delicious.

Today, my body decided to tell me that it had had enough of eating nothing, and started screaming "feed me! feed me NOW!!" my own little shop of horrors, aw bless. Only when I awoke, not only was there no one in the house to give me food, but the mailman had brought the Hotel Chocolat catalogue for my perusal (TORTURE) and every tv channel I turned to was either doing a feature on food or dieting. This Morning was doing a 'test how hungry you really are' dieting feature, involving a scale of 1-10, 1 being just eaten, 2-5 being not hungry but tempted to nibble, 6-8 hungry and 9-10 starving. I cracked up. howls of laughter. (I think I was getting hysterical) 7 hours later - actually about 15 minutes, but yanno, I was hungry! Mum came back and provided me with a tiny bowl of sustinance to see how it went down.. so far so good. So in a few minutes I'm having a bit more.

and indulging in another episode of Firefly - I think I deserve it!

Evil chocolate! mmmm!

memories of Christmas Dinner, breaking the diet to indulge in:

For starters: red salmon sushi with mayonnaise, prawns and nice safe lettuce,

Main: Non-organic Turkey, roast potatos!!  Sprouts,  Carrots, sausage meat, bacon, (plus the safe and innocuous non-diet-breaking cabbage, broccoli, and celary sauce.) Man I love potatos!!!

et la piece de resistance:

dessert: Marks and Spencer's Belgian chocolate, melt in the middle, rich chocolate pudding with double cream.

You should have seen the advert:

*deep throat music* v/o: "This is not a chocolate pudding. This is a Marks and Spencer super duper molten middle belgian chocolate pudding.

This is not cream. Its simply fabulous treble thickness Cornish clotted cream..." Made by real cornish pixies. And Leprechauns...

probably.

This is not an advert, this is porn!

Looks nice though, doesn't it ;)

and a link to a pic of me enjoying it: *sniggers*

I felt sick for days...

.... it was worth it!

Favourite Foreign films
A BIG HELLO to everyone who read my LJ yesterday and said hello (or didn't) sorry that I haven't been able to say much to you guys recently. I'm rarely online these days. But i'm not going to go on about all that, you're all lovely people and I miss you! *big hugs*

I've just watched 'Italian For Beginners' which is one of the first films made under the rules of Dogme95 (basically a bunch of Danish film makers got together and agreed a set of rules to pare down their movies to the bare bones making storyline and character key - to understand just how basic; they're not even allowed a tripod for the camera!) I went for this one because I'm learning Italian anyway, and so even if it was a rubbish movie, I could still use it for educational purposes.. hehe.

It was brilliant, really enjoyable and entertaining, sweet, romantic and down to earth at the same time.

I've been checking out a lot of foreign films recently. (You know you're waaay too into movies when....)

These are the ones I've watched so far and would recommend to someone else (in no particular order)

Italian for Beginners / Italiensk for begyndere (Danish) - about a group of people who share more together than just language classes.

Behind the Sun / Abril Despedaçado (Portugese) - a heart-wrending Brazilian film featuring the drop-dead-gorgeous Rodrigo Santoro of Baz Lurmann's Chanel no5 advert fame.

House of Flying Daggers / Shi mian mai fu (Manderin Chinese) - So stunning! Romantic drama following the fate of a blind dancer, a mysterious warrior (who looks a lot like a dark-haired Legolas, though you can't really see it here) and the police chief sent to find them and the secret martial arts group who bear the name in the film's title.

Etre et Avoir / (To Be and To Have) (french) adorable documentary about a provencal school teacher and his tiny mixed-age class.

Hero / Ying xiong (Mandarin Chinese) - Chronicles the story of the great warrior Nameless and his battles against China's most feared assassins. Totally stunning and a very profound storyline.

Amelie / Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (French) - Absolutely adorable! If you haven't seen this film yet, go slap yourself! *winks*

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon / Wo hu cang long (Mandarin Chinese) - despite being a Wushu (martial arts movie) it's more a fairytale than an action thriller, though there is plenty of fighting in it. It all centres round a fight for posession of the sword 'The Green Destiny'

Where is the Friend's house? / Khane-ye doust kodjast? (Persian) –Addictively watchable. A lovely introduction to Iranian Cinema. Based on the experiences of a little boy who discovers his best friend is going to be in serious trouble unless he takes an epic (for him) journey. (Be warned, for those not familiar with Iranian films, this could seem a little slow; there's almost no dialogue and it's filmed in real time, so the boy's travels are recorded in their entirety. It still manages to play like a thriller and convey all the childlike emotion of the boy on his quest.)

I’ve also bought Kolya because it's title character has my favourite Russian name (Kolya = nickname for Nickolai) But I haven't watched it yet. I don't even know what it's about. And a romantic tale that comes highly recommended (My friend said it was the only film you ever need to see) called the Princess and the Warrior (Geman). I’ll let you know what I think.

so... what's yours?

The Wedding Date
ah what a lovely movie. So sweet and romantic, considering what it's about that's a bit of a surprise. Well IMDB.com says "Single-girl anxiety causes Kat Ellis (Messing) to hire a male escort (Mulroney) to pose as her boyfriend at her sister's wedding. Her plan, an attempt to dupe her ex-fiancé, who dumped her a couple years prior, proves to be her undoing"

Dermot Mulroney is scarily sexy and very very good at his job.. He knows exactly what to say to put Debra Messing at ease and his catch phrase is "it's not about me, it's all about you" *sighs* pretty much the perfect guy, only he's faking it the whole time.. (he's a hooker! It's his job!) or is he?!

Absolutely adorable ending.

It was a bit annoying seeing Jeremy Sheffield - a very good english actor - shoehorned into a badly Hugh-Grant shaped role, and all the other UK supporting cast were basically reprising their Four Weddings roles; a leettle bit cliched!

But, how can you knock this?!

"I'd rather be fighting with you than making love to any other woman"

awwww!

Beren and Luthien

R has started going through the whole of the Lay of Beleriand 20 lines at a time on his blog.  It's such amazing stuff.  Well worth a look. (The illustrations alone are worth a peek).  He'd love to have comments and thoughts and discussion happening, but so far, only me and him know about it.  So I'm advertising.  This is some of the best stuff Tolkien ever wrote.  In fact, Tolkien thought it was the best thing he ever wrote.  He believed a story isn't a good one until it's been tested by putting it into poetry.  If you can put up with the rhyming couplets, do join in.  Some of it is sublime!     'A daughter had he; Luthien....' *sighs*

A king there was in days of old:
ere Men yet walked upon the mould
his power was reared in cavern's shade,
his hand was over glen and glade.
His shields were shining as the moon,
his lances keen of steel were hewn,
of silver grey his crown was wrought,
the starlight in his banners caught;
and silver thrilled his trumpets long
beneath the stars in challenge strong;
enchantment did his realm enfold,
where might and glory, wealth untold,
he wielded from his ivory throne
in many-pillared halls of stone.
There beryl, pearl, and opal pale,
and metal wrought like fishes' mail,
buckler and corslet, axe and sword,
and gleaming spears were laid in hoard
all these he had and loved them less
than a maiden once in Elfinesse;
for fairer than are born to Men
a daughter had he, Lúthien."
(1-22)

Such lissom limbs no more shall run
on the green earth beneath the sun;
so fair a maid no more shall be
from dawn to dusk, from sun to sea.
Her robe was blue as summer skies,
but grey as evening were her eyes;
'twas sewn with golden lilies fair,
but dark as shadow was her hair.
Her feet were light as bird on wing,
her laughter lighter than the spring;
the slender willow, the bowing reed,
the fragrance of a flowering mead,
the light upon the leaves of trees,
the voice of water, more than these
her beauty was and blissfulness,
her glory and loveliness;
and her the king more dear did prize
than hand or heart or light of eyes.

It's official. I'm in love with Zaphod Beeblebrox. I know he's a jerk, and he's irritating as hell. But c'mon! He's ADORABLE!

Cripes!
Just found out DangerMouse (aussie bestestmate) has been in a major accident!

He was driving down the freeway at 100Km/h and flipped his car over 3 times before it landed on its roof.

The emergancy crew are baffled that he's still alive.

But he was almost completely unharmed. Just a tiny papercut scratch on his arm. No bruises, no bleeding, no broken bones, no concussion. Totally fine (apart from the shakes of course!).

He said "I am awestruck that God made sure I wasn't hurt, I kept thinking 'thanks be to the Lord our God who is righteous in every way and watches our every move.'"

"when you walk through fire you will not be burned..."

(pray for: recovery from shock. God to provide transport - he needs a car for work. Jesus to feel real close to him and give him peace. Good sleep and quieting his mind, it's been racing afterthe accident. Compassion from his boss. That it doesn't make his glandular fever worse).
